Jan 24th - Kelly

John blogged some tonight but he left the good news for me!  Kyle drank out of a bottle tonight for the first time!  The nurses warned me that he might brady and de-sat and choke and spit and his nurse even put a gown on incase she had to take him from me.

so you are probably wondering how he did....

HE DID GREAT!  he did brady once at the beginning trying to get organized in the suck, swallow, breathe routine. (this is actually a difficult task for preemies)  but then he realized that something was coming out and he LOVED IT!  He did so good.  His little eyes got SO big!  and he just looked at me!  his normal feeding is 38 ccs.  and in the 30 minutes they give him to try he ate 30 ccs!  and if you want to know how amazing that is a nurse in the room - Karla - who has been a nurse for several years said she has never seen a 23 weeker do that good!  Brandy was his nurse today and she was the one that kept telling us he was ready for this and boy was he!

I am obviously sooo excited.  I feel like this is a REALLY great step for Kyle.  Not just b/c he can eat but I feel like he is progressing well.  He is doing things that I remember jadon and jack doing when they were born.  this is so encouraging to me.

so back to the eating - Brandy put 15 ccs in a bottle and said she thought he would not even take all that but he sucked it dry!  and wanted more.  so we filled up another 15 ccs and he drank that too - then... I got to burp him - 3 months old and I finally get to feed and burp him!  and he did burp!  too cute!  and after the burp - he turned is head to the side like any diligent newborn and began to root on his blanket!  adorable!

John couldn't come with me today but he will be there tomorrow so we will get video and pics and just pretend it was his first time!

I am praying for a little boy across the way from Kyle - he is having a scary day.

CONGRATS, I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU ALL. THINGS ARE GOING TO START GOING SO FAST NOW AND KYLE WILL BE HOME BEFORE YOU KNOW IT. ONCE THEY LEARN THAT SUCK, SWALLOW, BREATH IT IS EASY SAILING FROM THERE. MY TWINS (26 WEEKERS)TOOK FOREVER TO LEARN THIS, BUT THEY HAD REFLUX SO BAD. ONCE THEY LEARNED WE WERE HOME IN A FEW SHORT WEEKS. OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU ALL.

Praise God!! from Morningside Baptist Church in Morristown! We are still praying for continued development and growth. I check up everyday on Kyle's progress and relay to the church here. I can't wait to tell them that you have taken him home! This is a HUGE step for Kyle and we are so thankful to our Glorious Father.

John & Kelly,
You DO have much reason to be optimistic...rooting and sucking down a 30cc bottle on one's first attempt is quite an accomplishment for a micro-premie who had a breathing tube in his throat for 2 months.
I am celebrating with you today!

Hip Hip Hooray!!! What a sweet treat this morning! I am sure he was thinking, "What is this fabulous stuff?" I just love to see how awesome God is through all of Kyle's accomplishments! Still praying for you all daily. :)

I am going to have to stop reading these blogs at the office - people are going to wonder why I start every day with tears in my eyes :-) Seriously, this is fabulous news! My friend here who had a preemie said her 26-weeker had to try 3 or 4 times to learn the suck/swallow/breathe routine. She is now two and sooo smart and silly. I look forward to the day when you can say the same about Kyle. Can't wait for the pictures!

That's great! I knew he would take right to the bottle. It took my 26 weeker forever to get the hang of it!

How exciting! It's quite amazing how the littlest things babies do, excite the adults, especially when they have been through so much at such a young age! I think that little lion cub (KYLE) will be roaring around the house very soon!!! Look out Jadon and Jack looks like you have a brother who is serious about getting home soon!!! Can't wait for more pics!!

wow, what awesome news! thanks for sharing it with all of us. I am very excited about it and I am not his momma so I can only imagine how you must be feeling!

I pray that the Lord will continue to allow Kyle to grow and mature. He'll be home before you know it. Just think how fast these last three months have went by.

Still praying for you all every day, still believing and thanking God for the miracles He is doing with Kyle!

I just have to chime in with the opportunity to sing praise to the Lord for all He is accomplishing...to the point that even the doctors and nurses have to scratch their heads in amazement. THAT is cool!! You guys are all lions in my book....fiercely courageous in battle! And, when you get to the other side of this you will look back and KNOW that the nail scarred hands of our Savior were ever present...His hold on you is continuous.
Lovingly and earnestly praying!

I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW EXCITED I AM !! I've been beaming & telling everyone that our baby Kyle sucked from a bottle & is at 4lbs & BURPED!!! Oh my gosh, this is HUGE!!! God is so good to allow all of us to experience some of your joy!! I'm so thankful for all of your good & promising progress. I believe even more that the Lord truly has something super huge in store for Kyle & his family. I'm so encouraged to continue my
"prayer wall time" (Wed's 6 to 7 a.m.!!) Sometimes it's hard to get everything done so I can have this time for Kyle but I'm so encouraged that I believe it's such a tiny thing for me to do for such a huge "return" = Kyle thriving.
Enjoy this precious time!! Take lots of pictures ~ & share with us!!
Know you are loved all over the world by many you'll probably never know...well, not till we all get to heaven! :o)
You've made my weekend a little warmer (even though it's 34* & raining).

Yesterday I was having a bad day and I received a text from my youth pastor's wife and it said.. "Kyle drank from a bottle yesterday!!!!!!" and I was overfilled with joy. It is amazing to hear that and I'm so happy for the Sherrill family. Just a day closer to going home to all boys together right Kelly? I'll continue praying for the better days and Jadon and Jack are always being thought of. I can't wait to hear more now.

Our Story

This story begins with 5 people. John, Kelly, Jadon, Jack, and Kyle (he is only 23 weeks old... and he is still safely tucked away in his mommy's belly) In an hour's time Kyle made his way into the world. 1 pound, 3 ounces- 11 and a half inches long. This family will never be the same. This child is a warrior. He has the spirit of a Lion, and more courage than a whole pride. He is fierce, and fearless- and he is teaching us to fear the Lord- and to believe that God is in our midst and healing even now. Join us as pray, as we praise, and as we journey through this life as lovers of God and all His glory.

Kyle is in the March of Dimes Promo!
