Report from Tuesday/Wednesday AM -- John

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 07, 2007 10:48 AM, CST

I have been reading a lot lately about settling into life in the NICU. And, as much as I read, I have figured out there is no real way to settle into the life of the NICU.
While this place is filled with amazing people who are doing their best to accommodate and to help Kyle,… this is the most exhausting and trying environment I have ever been in. I got to the place last night around 10:30 where I think I hit a wall. In seemingly a minute, I was exhausted. I just could not do it anymore – at least for that day.
But, never the less, we wanted to stay to talk with Kyle’s nurse practicioner for the night
because of some of his later blood gas reports.

Kyle has been doing so great for the last few days. His numbers were in a decent spot,...
They have upped his feedings again to 2 cc’s every three hours (which is really not even ½ a teaspoon, but hey,… he is getting nourishment which is huge!
Kelly even got to hold him for about 2 hours yesterday for the first time!
They call this kangaroo care. They put Kyle on Kelly’s chest and cover him up
With blankets and she just holds him there for at least an hour. Kyle did so well with it, she held him for 2 !!! During this process, his temperature, heartbeat and breathing all regulate to Kelly. Isn’t that amazing? Man, I see that, hear of that, and think to myself,…

“I AM SO THANKFUL FOR EVOLUTION AND THE BIG BANG THEORY!”

ok, so that was my sarcastic jab for the day. I have NO IDEA how people can look past the wonder of this and NOT believe in God, and His creation story. I have began thinking a lot lately about Genesis. I really believe if people don’t have a healthy and right perspective on creation, their whole theology is out of whack. Seriously,..
If you can’t appreciate the truth, beauty and magnitude of creation, you can’t even appreciate the truth, power and love of Jesus.

Last night, Kyle started having problems with a few of his blood gas reports. His CO2 was up again, so they figured they would put him on his stomach to sleep. He loves this… (must get it from me)… They thought he had a big day, with a lot of movement, assessment, etc, so they chalked up these reports to his need for rest,…
BUT, after about the same reports this morning, it look like a vent change is in order, and some more cultures to be preformed.

Please continue to pray for Kyle’s lungs. This is very important.
On top of that, there is suspect that his PDA valve has reopened yet again. They did an echocardiogram yesterday, which we should get reports back today to confirm that.
His doctor said that she would rather watch him clinically until he absolutely needed to do the surgery to fix this. She is wanting him to be a little bigger before they put him under any knife. I concur with this,… but also want him to be healthy, so it is sort of being stuck – caught in the middle of what should we do???...

His skin is looking so much better though,… after they did the echo, they wiped off the jelly off his chest they had put on him, and all his scabs and peeling came with it At first, I think it freaked them all out, but underneath was this nice, pretty, pink skin... so all were pleased with that.

Continue to pray for Kyle’s lungs, his PDA valve, his brain bleeds to recede and be reabsorbed, etc.
Pray for God’s supernatural miracle to happen. We should do the brain test tomorrow.
To be totally honest, we are nervous about it, but we also are believing God that no matter what,… we KNOW God has a plan. So, we move forward.

Thanks for praying for Kyle, for Jadon and Jack, and for us.
We really appreciate it

I will try to update you more from the hospital later today.

We had such a great time with you'll yesterday. Kyle is precious. After we left last night, we prayed out loud for Kyle in the car and both had so much peace that God is holding him and caring for him and healing him. You guys are doing great. Keep being honest with your feelings and God will sustain you. Hopefully we'll be back to see you in a couple of weeks. Can't wait to see how much Kyle will have grown by then.

love,
staci

John, I'm so thankful that Kelly got to hold little Kyle for such a while! (By the way, is there a thing with the J's and the K's?) I just wanted to comment on your perspective regarding a correct view of creation. I did a precepts Bible study recently on Genesis 1. We looked up A LOT of cross references, and I never before realized that many times in the Bible, the POWER of God is attributed to Him being CREATOR. It's so important to get it right that He is CREATOR, just as Genesis accounts, so that we believe in His POWER! We are trusting in His POWER to heal and grow little Kyle and to sustain you and your family.

“When I Think About The Lord”

When I think about the Lord
How He saved me, how He raised me
How He filled me with the Holy Ghost
How He healed me to the uttermost
When I think about the Lord
How he picked me up
Turned me around
How He set my feet
On solid ground

It makes me want to shout
Hallelujah! Thank you, Jesus!
Lord, you're worthy
Of all the glory, and all the honor
And all the praise!
Hallelujah! Thank you, Jesus!
Lord, you're worthy
Of all the glory, and all the honor
And all the praise!

We sang this song at Breakaway last night and when we sang "He healed me to the uttermost" I thought about Kyle and how God can heal him to the uttermost and I am praying that He does. And then we can all sing "Hallelujah! Thank you, Jesus! Lord, You're worthy of all the glory, and all the honor, and all the praise!"

Our Story

This story begins with 5 people. John, Kelly, Jadon, Jack, and Kyle (he is only 23 weeks old... and he is still safely tucked away in his mommy's belly) In an hour's time Kyle made his way into the world. 1 pound, 3 ounces- 11 and a half inches long. This family will never be the same. This child is a warrior. He has the spirit of a Lion, and more courage than a whole pride. He is fierce, and fearless- and he is teaching us to fear the Lord- and to believe that God is in our midst and healing even now. Join us as pray, as we praise, and as we journey through this life as lovers of God and all His glory.

Kyle is in the March of Dimes Promo!
